The government of the Republic of Singapore is a Parliamentary Republic and the Prime Minister is Mr. Lee Hsien Loong (since 2004). The history of Singapore dates back to pre-14th century, at a time when it was part of the Sri Vijayan Empire and was known as Temasek. During the 14th century the island earned a new name Singa Pura or Lion City.
