Regent Focuses on China Expansion With Senior Development Appointment

Luxury hospitality group Regent Hotels & Resorts announces the appointment of Cai Shuo as Vice President Development for China, responsible for expanding the Regent brand in the powerful Chinese market. The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) predicts China will become the world’s leading inbound tourism destination by 2015.

Cai’s 27 years of hospitality experience includes appointments with The Great Wall Sheraton Hotel Beijing, Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific, Millennium & Copthorne Hotels and Resorts, the Longement Hotels Management Company Limited and most recently as Vice President of Business Development (China) for Pan Pacific Hotels Group. 
 
Founded in the 1970’s, Regent Hotels & Resorts was one of the first Asian-based global hospitality groups to be established.  Regent returns to its Asian ownership roots and China is an essential element of the future growth strategy of the brand.

Regent opened the iconic Regent Hong Kong in 1980, introducing the first 5 fixture hotel bathroom and in room check-in. Regent Taipei opened in 1990 and today features the largest hotel shopping galleria, with more than 50 luxury retail brands such as Chanel, Hermes, Cartier, Dior, Graff, Tiffany and Harry Winston. 
 
Mixed use projects incorporating luxury hotel accommodations, restaurants, residential and shopping galleria components are the primary development model for China. Regent's expertise in this area, coupled with being a Chinese-owned company in the most dynamic growth region of the world makes China a top priority market for the brand.  Along with the existing Regent Beijing, Regent has expansion plans for luxury hotels into Shanghai, Guangzhou, Sanya, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Qingdao, Dalian, Shenzhen, Xiamen as key target destinations. 
 
Regent turns its focus to China amidst brand-wide recognition. All five of Regent’s managed hotels are included in Conde Nast Traveler’s 2011 Reader’s Choice Awards, a ranking of the top hotels and resorts in the world as chosen independently by readers of this luxury travel magazine.  This is the first time ever a global hotel company has its entire portfolio of managed hotels included in this prestigious ranking.
